Things to Do in Sussex on New Years Eve

Christmas at Grand Eastbourne

New Year’s Eve is one of those nights where the pressure to have a good time is enormous. If you’re not in the right place, with the right people, in the right outfit at exactly the right time then your evening will be ruined! If you’re based in Sussex and currently getting swept up in this kind of drama then you might be wondering whether a last minute trip to London, or even abroad, is something you should shell out for to ensure that your New Year’s Eve is the night to beat all nights. However, the expense and the hassle is just not necessary – if you are looking ahead to the end of the year but somewhat stuck for inspiration then here are some ideas for things to do in Sussex on New Year’s Eve.

Restaurants

If a good meal and some fine wine is your idea of New Year’s Eve heaven then there are plenty of establishments offering great deals on menus and some seriously festive atmosphere. If you are looking for an excellent value option that would especially suit groups then Zizzi restaurant in Haywards Heath is holding a New Years Eve Gala Dinner with a set menu of £59.95 per person. The House Restaurant in Brighton is situated in the cool Laines area and is the perfect spot for foodies looking for a mouthwatering New Year’s Eve celebration. Alternatively, try somewhere like Horsham’s first Japanese restaurant, Wabi for a fabulous tasting menu including dishes like beef fillet tartar and yellowtail sashimi for £95 per person.

Clubs

Sussex is well populated with clubs, from the legendary gay scene in Brighton, to venues playing chart tunes or underground beats across the county. Most clubs are throwing New Year’s Eve parties so if you fancy celebrating midnight with a crowd of sweaty clubbers then you’re in luck. For a spectacular end of year blow out in the style of the hedonistic decadence of the 1920s, Audio Nightclub in Brighton is a great spot for cool kids who want to dance all night. Atlantis Nightclub in Eastbourne is the perfect venue for some mainstream partying, with special drinks offers and a glammed up crowd. Alternatively, the Liquid Lounge in Worthing is throwing a Mardis Gras style New Year’s Eve party with jugglers, fire eaters and some crazy antics.

Overnight breaks

If you want to make a night of it without having to worry about driving home then Sussex has some wonderful hotels where you can book in for New Year’s Eve and leave all the arrangements to someone else. The 16th Century Pelham House in East Sussex is the perfect venue for those looking for a relaxed country retreat. Start your evening with a cocktail in the Pelham House Bar then ring in the New Year with some fine dining at the Pelham House Restaurant. For a seriously grand start to 2012 try reserving a room at Amberley Castle at the foot of the South Downs. Book for the hotel’s New Year’s Eve Black Tie Gala and enjoy a champagne and canapé reception, followed by a five course tasting menu, before retiring to your four poster bed.If you’re looking for seaside Luxury, hotels in Sussex don’t come much more luxurious than the Grand in Eastbourne which has a number of options for overnight stays on and around NYE as well as entertainment for the kids (full details here).

For a cosy coastal retreat, the Crab & Lobster in West Sussex is located on the banks of Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve. Dine on freshly caught seafood at the hotel’s restaurant and enjoy a restful start to the new year.

Something a little unusual

If you’ve been there with bars and clubs and the idea of an overnight break sounds a bit dull then why not try something a bit different. The Brighton Ballroom is holding an End of The World! Party with burlesque, cabaret and variety that promises exotic acts and an entertaining start to the New Year. Alternatively, Komedia in Brighton is offering a combined ticket for its Krater Comedy Club and Trailer Trash Vegas Special club night, if you want to get 2012 off to a great start with a laugh and a boogie. Or perhaps you want to see the new year in with a renewed sense of relaxation and wellbeing? How about a stay at a spa day followed by a meal and overnight stay – the Sussex Spa at Ashdown Park hotel has a number of packages available over new years – start 2012 off as you mean to go on!

Whatever your plans for New Year’s Eve – whoever you will be with and whatever you’re planning to do – just make sure have a wonderful time.  This night only comes once a year – enjoy it!
