Our Hotel Du Vin Brighton Review:
A boutique residence situated in Brighton’s Lanes area, the Hotel Du Vin Brighton is an intriguingly designed building which combines mock-Tudor with Gothic Revival. The hotel occupies the site where an old inn used to stand, and was put up by a local wine merchant. The stylishly decorated rooms are a particular favourite with couples coming to the seaside town for a romantic break or on their honeymoon.
Its location in south Lanes means that the resident here is in the heart of Brighton’s main entertainment quarter where there are abundant restaurants, nightclubs and bars. The property is just moments from the town’s famous seafront and promenade, offering easy access to local activities including mackerel fishing, strolling around the antique shops in the Lanes or shopping in Churchill Square.
The on-site restaurant, Bistro Du Vin, with its contemporary French feel, is popular with guests and local residents alike. A home-grown philosophy means that ingredients at the eatery are locally sourced from suppliers including Redlands Farm, Springs Smoked Salmon and Paul Hodges Fish. Fine European cuisine is accompanied by a varied and extensive wine list, and an eclectic range of cocktails.
Next door to the Hotel Du Vin Brighton is the Pub Du Vin. Situated in the Sussex Art Club, it serves traditional British pub food and locally brewed ales, kept in pewter tankards, including Smoky Nol, Thatchers Gold, Hophead and Sussex Best Bitter. The downside to having a pub so close is that some of the Du Vin’s guest rooms are affected by late-night noise. Worse still, some rooms are only accessible by first exiting the hotel. All rooms are reached by stairs, with no lift at the property.
The residence offers guests a choice of 49 en suite rooms and two suites. All rooms are equipped with modern amenities, including internet access, large wide-screen televisions, air conditioning and hand-sprung mattresses draped in Egyptian cotton sheets. Health treatments such as reflexology, Indian head massage or aromatherapy are offered within the privacy of the guest rooms, allowing guests to fully unwind.
The Hotel Du Vin Brighton offers a bespoke wedding service for those wishing to celebrate their big day on the south coast. It also offers a number of private rooms suitable for meetings or private parties. Guests can choose The Dome, a room with a high-domed roof and a marvellous wine-class chandelier. Other rooms offering privacy include Hush Heath, with its French doors, the Captain’s Table, Screwpull and SMWS Snuggle.
Those wishing for character and style while visiting this endlessly fascinating part of the UK will not be disappointed by a stay at the Hotel Du Vin, especially if they take advantage of one of the property’s Sunday night deals. But choose you room carefully at this establishment or you could be caught out in the rain trying to access your accommodation or kept awake at night through the noise of night-owls on their way home after the pub.
