Our myhotel Brighton Review:

Myhotel Brighton is an ultra-modern residence situated on Jubilee Street, in the trendy North Laine area of the city. The hotel takes its inspiration from the East, and rooms are individually decorated with bright colours, bespoke artwork and crystals, and are designed to conform to the principles of feng shui.

The quirky guest rooms mix eastern inspirations with modern amenities such as flat-screen televisions, the latest sound systems and wireless internet. All rooms have en suite bathrooms with comfortable bathrobes and extras such as baby baths are available on request.

Entering Myhotel Brighton’s lobby provides visitors with an idea of what they can expect from their stay. In the centre of the floor is a star, which gently pulses in changing colours. The reception desk appears to have been lifted from a spaceship and the different lighting systems occasionally seem to be trying too hard. This is a hotel for the young and the trendy who come to hang out in the city’s interesting spaces.

The on-site Chilli Pickle Indian restaurant serves up an award-winning menu of dishes, all of which are carefully prepared with locally-sourced produce. Merkaba is one of Brighton’s trendiest bars and the place to head for eclectic cocktails made with fresh fruits. Its seductive surroundings welcome guests late into the night.

The hotel has a partnership with the Small Batch Coffee Company, a local firm, which serves guests with coffee produced from a wide espresso menu, a micro roaster and a siphon brew bar. Yet breakfast at the property can be a let-down, with a ‘greasy spoon’ atmosphere prevailing.

Myhotel is a five-minute stroll from the seashore and the entertainments which line it. The railway station is just a short walk away. Because the city is compact, most attractions can be easily reached from the property on foot. As well as the boutiques and the antique shops of the Lanes, the flamboyant architecture of the Royal Pavilion, the Dome and Brighton Pier can all be reached with ease.

The 80-room residence opened in 2008 and is the shared vision of Myhotel Brighton’s founder, Andy Thrasyvoulou, and designer Karim Rashid. It mirrors Brighton’s growing reputation as a place where people can get away from the drudgery of everyday life and escape into a fantasy. It is therefore the ideal place to stay for those who have come for the city’s vibrant nightlife and reputation for parties.

As well as the endless bars, eateries and shops to explore, Brighton offers pastimes such as a day at the races. Brighton Racecourse is intimate enough to be interesting to those who have come for something other than gambling and has awe-inspiring views over the sea. The nearby marina is another great place to settle back with a drink and watch the yachts come and go.

Although it is not the Mediterranean, the sea here offers a range of activities including canoeing, windsurfing and fishing, though actually going into the water can be a bracing experience. On hot days, sitting on the pebbles with a drink or an ice-cream, watching people and the waves lapping at the shore, is extremely pleasurable, or head into town to see it illuminated after dark.

For a funky weekend break, Myhotel Brighton is a top spot. Yet older guests may feel out of place in this slightly whacky establishment with its curvy glass details and plastic d?cor.
