You can enjoy true pub grub at the Basketmakers Arms, Brighton’s most famous Ale House. It’s tucked away just off North Laine and receives a lot of visitor who undoubtably return time and time again for some heart-warming food, cask ales or one of over 100 whiskeys on offer.
The burgers are scrumptious and all homemade- choose from 100% 6oz beef burger to 100% vegetarian burger to 100% lamb burger served with spicy mint relish. There’s also a whole host of other traditional pub dishes available, such as fiery authentic Mexican chilli, steaks, fish, salads and sandwiches. If you’ve got any room left, the puddings are a must- chocolate brownie with cream and sticky toffee with custard. Once you’ve visited feel free to leave a note in the huge collection of tobacco tins stacked up against the walls.

The Black Lion
The Black Lion pub situated in the heart of Brighton in the famous Lanes and dates right back to the 16th Century. The exterior certainly reflects this with its wooden cladding and historic charm. However, the interior is modern, open plan and the atmosphere noticeably laid back and welcoming with friendly (student?) bar staff.
You can pick up a super burger here- think two juicy burgers locked between tasty cibatta bread with all the trimmings, with chips of course. It’s the Black Lion way! There are also a whole host of pub meals to be enjoyed too, with many daily specials to be taken advantage of. The Black Lion is a popular destination for drinkers, thanks to the decently priced beers and spirits. Watch as a dance floor suddenly emerges once the DJ gets going at weekends.

Grubbs Burger has been around for a while in Brighton and that’s because their burgers are delicious, made to order and flame grilled to your liking. You won’t find that level of service in a major fast-food burger outlet, that’s for sure.
Admittedly, this burger joint is very popular with the student crowd and is a late-night destination for drinkers after a tasty bite; however you won’t be disappointed when sinking your teeth into these juicy beasts.
There’s a great selection of unconventional fillings, from peanut butter to chilli-mayo, and all burgers have a vegetarian option. Choose to have it with chips, wedges or killer onion rings or maybe even a creamy milkshake. If you visit Brighton & Hove you really can’t leave without having tried a Grubbs Burger!
