Best on a Budget in Brighton

Pound Coins

Times are hard what with all the latest government cuts (thanks bankers), so we’ve compiled our top three restaurants offering fantastic food and most importantly, great value.

New Steine Bistro

New Steine Bistro is located in the stylish and elegant New Stine Hotel and is one of the best restaurants in Brighton to find fantastic food at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere here is very relaxed and friendly, with great service in an intimate setting. The restaurant has a boutique-style with a hint of French influence and holds regular art exhibitions. Everything is well presented, including the exquisite food, which is homemade.

The menu has been carefully selected to offer delicious French and British dishes, such as sirloin steak and chips (12.95), duck confit (£10.95) and lamb shank with creamy mashed potato (£11) to name a few. There are tasty desserts on offer too, such as chocolate fondant, sorbet or ice-cream and Tartin Tain and calvados crème fraiche (all £4,50 each).

To really get more for your money, you can eat 2 courses for just £12.50 and 3 courses at just £14.50 from Sunday to Thursday; or 2 courses for £16.50 or 3 courses for ££18.50 on Friday’s and Saturdays. This really is superb value for such a luxury restaurant.

Pompoko

Pompoko is a fantastic Japanese restaurant café situated in the heart of Brighton, offering some of the tastiest and inexpensive meals along the South Coast. This restaurant has steered away from the typical sushi-style selections, and instead offers hearty Japanese dishes that appeal to both western and eastern taste buds. Food here is authentic, tasty and made with a smile.

The menu is amazing value for money- choose from delicious appetisers like honey BBQ spare ribs (£2.50), sweet corn soup with chicken (£1.60) or Yakitori (£2.40). The move onto tempting curry and donburi dishes that are all served with rice, all under £5.00. There is great choice when it comes to noodles, rice and salads and again- all are for under £5.00. There really is no other restaurant we’ve come across that beats this in terms of value and it hasn’t gone unnoticed, with many locals coming here on a daily basis. Don’t miss out!

Mistys

Mistys is a great place to have a really sociable and enjoyable evening, as it is both a restaurant and fabulous cocktail bar. The atmosphere is very friendly, relaxed and ambient, with modern décor and an undercover terraced area outside for alfresco drinking.

The food here is delicious and great value for money. Our favourite things about Mistys are the fantastic burgers, 2-4-1 cocktails (Sun-Thurs) and Ladies night (Wednesday), where girls can grab two cocktails for one for themselves or others! An added bonus is the bar is open until very late and you can even hire out the VIP area for free. Bargain!

This is definitely a place to go for a great night out that won’t give you guilt feelings the next day!
